News Summary:

Cyprus's Department of Electronic Communications reactivated the previous digital terrestrial television platform Velister on July 10, 2026, to run it in parallel with the new DVB-T2 platform for three additional months. This decision followed a wave of problems reported by households since the full switch to the new DVB-T2 standard, which replaced the older DVB-T system used by Velister. Earlier, on July 2, Cyprus households faced issues tuning into the new frequencies after the DVB-T2 switchover, despite completing necessary settings or installing decoders. Previously, on June 30, Hellas Sat participated in the official GOVSATCOM demonstration at EU Space Days 2026 in Nicosia, showcasing secure satellite communications for emergency response when terrestrial networks are unavailable or degraded. Concurrently, the Municipality of Vari Voula Vouliagmeni became the first municipality in Greece to deploy Hellas Sat satellite communications as part of its civil protection strategy. This initiative followed Hellas Sat's earlier demonstration of its new Satellite-Enabled Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV) at InterAigis 2026, an integrated solution designed to ensure uninterrupted operational communications during emergencies and crisis situations.
