Engie, also known as ENGIE SA, is a publicly owned company headquartered in France. Founded in 2008 and employing approximately 47,580 individuals, the company primarily operates as a provider of low-carbon energy, with utilities as its main product.
On July 10, 2026, Engie SA secured all 12 of its onshore wind project bids, totaling 259 MW of capacity, in the 11th round of France's onshore wind tender administered by local energy regulator CRE under the PPE2 framework. Previously, on July 9, 2026, the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA) approved generation licenses for four utility-scale solar photovoltaic projects, combining 890 MW of contracted capacity under the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme Bid Window 7.3, with Engie co-leading the projects alongside Red Rocket South Africa. Earlier on the same day, July 9, 2026, the annual CLEEE-FNCCR benchmark, published on June 30, 2026, ranked Engie as France’s leading major electricity and gas supplier for the seventh consecutive year.
