Egyptian Radio and Television Union, also known as ERTU, is a state-owned entity headquartered in Egypt. Established in 1945, this tier 1 media tech buyer functions as the public broadcaster of Egypt. Its primary product is broadcast television and radio. Formerly known as Egyptian State Broadcasting (ESU), ERTU is operated by the Egyptian government.
On September 15, 2026, Abdulla bin Mohammed bin Butti Al Hamed, Chairman of the National Media Authority (NMA), honored the winners of the inaugural 'First Edition' program during the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair. This followed the NMA's participation in the same fair on September 12, where it aimed to regulate the media sector and stimulate publishing. Earlier, on September 7, the NMA partnered with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) to hold a UAE Media Briefing, outlining the country's preparations to host the 2026 UN Water Conference from December 8-10, in collaboration with Senegal. Previously, on September 1, Egypt moved to settle EGP 88.3 billion ($1.7 billion) in historic debt owed by the National Media Authority (NMA), the successor to the Egyptian Radio and Television Union (ERTU). This settlement followed directives from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and was welcomed by the NMA board as a significant step towards resolving long-standing financial challenges and improving the state media sector's sustainability. This action came shortly after the Egyptian Cabinet on August 30 distanced itself from a proposal to write off domestic public debt through state asset transfers, even as a financier noted the government had recently executed a similar mechanism in a massive state media debt settlement.
