Previously, on May 7, Commissioner Tom Wistrcill supported the NCAA's decision to expand the Division I men's and women's basketball tournaments from 68 to 76 teams, an expansion set to begin with the 2026-27 postseason. This follows the conference's April 29 release of the 2026 and 2027 soccer conference schedules, which also detailed the league's expansion to 10 teams after Sacramento State's departure and the addition of Utah Tech and Southern Utah, the latter returning after four seasons in the WAC. In January, the Big Sky Conference released its softball preseason all-conference team and coaches' poll results, with four Sacramento State Hornets named to the preseason all-league team.
