ARTIS

ARTIS, also known as Natura Artis Magistra, is a non-profit, privately owned organization headquartered in the Netherlands. Founded in 1838, it currently employs approximately 340 individuals and operates as a zoo and botanical garden in the centre of Amsterdam. The organization is recognized as the oldest zoo in the Netherlands and the fifth oldest still operating worldwide. Beyond its primary function, Artis encompasses an aquarium, a planetarium, an arboretum, Micropia, and the Groote Museum. It also showcases a portion of its art collection within the aquarium building. The premises feature 27 historically significant buildings, bridges, and ponds, many of which continue to serve as animal enclosures.
