On June 25, 2026, the University of South Alabama established an academic partnership with weather technology company Climavision, gaining access to its proprietary radar data for instruction and research in atmospheric science. This collaboration provides students and faculty with advanced AI-driven forecasting technology and X-band radar networks designed to close weather observation gaps, supplementing NEXRAD for the state's Emergency Management Agency. Previously, on June 16, a study co-authored by Miranda Powell from the University of South Alabama's AS CHSE, titled "Responding to Families Who Express Biases: An Adaptable Standardized Participant Communication Simulation to Train Upstander Pediatric Providers," detailed efforts to prepare healthcare learners for discriminatory or biased comments from patients’ families. Earlier, on June 10, the Frederick P. Whiddon College of Medicine at the University of South Alabama named Edward A. Panacek M.D. MPH as interim chair of its Department of Pathology. Dr. Panacek concurrently holds the position of professor and chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine at the Whiddon College of Medicine, a role he has maintained since 2015.
