U.S. Defense Information Systems Agency, also known as DISA, is a state-owned entity headquartered in the US. It employs approximately 5,530 individuals and functions as a combat support agency of the Department of Defense, specializing in IT services and IT consulting.
On April 30, 2026, the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) outlined its governance over cloud security for the Department of Defense through the DoD CC SRG, a framework that layers defense-specific controls on top of civilian FedRAMP baselines, with IL4 designed to protect Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) using logical separation in commercial cloud environments. Previously, on April 29, DISA’s J9 directorate, its hosting and compute arm, began transitioning to a hybrid cloud delivery model, aiming to align services with mission requirements and provide more flexible, tailored cloud capabilities beyond its traditional role as an infrastructure provider. Earlier, on April 28, DISA appointed Sharon McMillon, a senior IT and cybersecurity leader, as vice director for programs within the DISA J-6 Command Control Communications and Computers Enterprise Directorate. This follows DISA beginning groundwork on April 14 for the recompete of the Defense Enterprise Office Solution contract, which supports the Defense Department’s Microsoft 365 environment and was initially awarded to General Dynamics IT in 2021 for operations and maintenance work.
