Previously, on September 11, 2026, Kenya’s competition regulator approved Japan’s Asahi’s $2.3 billion acquisition of Diageo’s Kenyan beer business, albeit with conditions. This approval followed Diageo's December 2025 announcement to divest its 65% stake in East African Breweries Limited (EABL) as part of its strategy to withdraw from the African market.
