Refurbished Tangara trains re-entered timetable service on September 8, 2026, extending their lifespan by over a decade and enhancing network reliability, nearly 40 years after the first trains were manufactured. This development followed the first of 55 refurbished Tangaras returning to passenger service on the T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line on September 4, marking a major milestone for the $447 million Tangara Life Extension program. Earlier, on August 27, Sydney Trains improved accessibility for passengers with mobility needs through its expanded digital boarding assistance technology, which has streamlined over 45,000 requests since its May network-wide rollout. In mid-August, from the 14th to the 17th, the company undertook a multi-system renewal program on the Blue Mountains corridor, targeting track and overhead wiring work at the Blackheath embankment. Previously, on July 27, a court approved an $18.1 million settlement in an underpayments class action against Sydney Trains, with $2 million allocated for legal costs.
