SportsEngine, a privately owned company headquartered in the US and a division of NBC Sports Next, was founded in 2009, employs approximately 130 individuals, and reported $86.6M in revenue as of 2023. Functioning as a tier 1 media tech buyer, the company specializes in providing sports management solutions for clubs, associations, leagues, governing bodies, and tournaments across dozens of sports, including soccer, football, lacrosse, basketball, hockey, rugby, softball, baseball, wrestling, and volleyball.
On May 8, 2026, PlayMetrics, a provider of operations management software for youth sports organizations, completed its acquisition of substantially all the assets of SportsEngine from Versant Media Group Inc. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. This transaction brings team management platforms, including TeamUnify, under new ownership. The acquisition was reported earlier on May 6 by Variety, which noted Versant sold the SportsEngine assets as part of a broader effort to sharpen its portfolio following its split from NBCUniversal. This followed a Bloomberg report on May 1, which indicated Versant's SportsEngine was set to sell to Genstar-backed Playmetrics. Previously, on April 29, USA Lacrosse and SportsEngine announced an expanded partnership, naming SportsEngine as the Preferred Youth Sports Management Platform Partner, responsible for registration, payments integrated with USA Lacrosse memberships, scheduling, communication, mobile apps, and roster management.
