South Gippsland Shire Council

South Gippsland Shire Council, a publicly owned entity headquartered in Australia, was founded in 1994 and employs approximately 220 individuals. Functioning as a local government area in Victoria, Australia, the Shire is located in the south-eastern part of the state, covering an area of 3,296 square kilometres and, as of June 2018, serving a population of 29,576. It encompasses the towns of Leongatha, Korumburra, Foster, Poowong, Mirboo North, and Meeniyan, and is governed and administered by its Council. The entity derives its name from the Gippsland region, where it occupies the southernmost portion, including Wilsons Promontory at the southern tip of the Australian continent.
