San Diego Symphony, a privately owned entity headquartered in the US, was founded in 1910 and employs approximately 210 individuals. Functioning as a tier 1 media tech buyer, the organization specializes in performing arts and operates as an orchestra in the US.
The San Diego Symphony announced on June 25, 2026, the release of Shostakovich Symphony No. 7 on Delos. This follows comments on May 18 from President and CEO Martha Gilmer, who expressed awe for the orchestra's capabilities during recording playbacks. Earlier in May, on May 7, the Symphony’s Concertmaster Jeff Thayer performed as a soloist in Alban Berg’s Violin Concerto, a work completed in 1935. On May 1, the Symphony named Sunny Xuecong Xia, the Associate Conductor of the Seattle Symphony and Seattle Opera, as its 2025-2026 Conducting Fellow, recognizing her innate musicality and compelling presence. Also on May 1, tickets went on sale for the 30th annual Symphony at Salk, a fundraising dinner and concert scheduled for August 15, 2026. The event, taking place at the Salk Institute’s oceanfront courtyard, will feature the San Diego Symphony and guest artists The Bacon Brothers.
