Openreach, a privately owned company headquartered in the UK, is a subsidiary of BT Group. Founded in 2006, the company employs approximately 35,000 people and reported $7.9B in revenue as of 2024. The company specializes in enterprise connectivity services, building and running the UK's broadband network.
Openreach is delivering a broadband upgrade scheme to over 30 villages and towns in rural Lancashire, including Bashall Eaves, Belmont, and Clitheroe, among others, as part of the government-backed Project Gigabit. This initiative aims to install reliable full-fibre connections in hard-to-reach areas. Previously on March 17, Openreach warned of a potential digital divide emerging in London as millions of customers have failed to upgrade to full-fibre broadband, despite the company having rolled out gigabit-capable broadband to 2.3 million premises across the city. Earlier the same day, residents across England and Wales gained access to a new address checker to determine their eligibility for the expanding Project Gigabit, a government initiative to boost connection speeds, particularly in rural communities.
