Vodafone Spain lands 3-year Amazon mobile connectivity deal

Vodafone Spain cuts network energy use by nearly 8% YoY

Vodafone Spain (Zegona) said it reduced energy consumption per unit of network data by 7.7 percent to 34.9 kilowatt-hours per terabyte in the 2025-2026 period, according to its Sustainability Report. The improvement, achieved despite a 14.6 percent annual increase in mobile and fixed data traffic, followed infrastructure upgrades and the introduction of a number of energy-saving features.

Vodafone Spain (Zegona) said it recycled and reused over 970.2 tons of customer devices in its fiscal year ending on 31 March 2026. Vodafone Spain (Zegona) is returning a large portion of its 26 GHz millimetre-wave spectrum to the state as part of plans to streamline operations and cut non-productive costs, reports BandaAncha. The operator confirmed the move after being contacted by the site, citing no current plans to deploy antennas in the band and the need to reduce expenses, a decision in line with its rejection of a 10 MHz tranche in the 3.6 GHz band offered for free by Orange back in 2024.

Vodafone Spain handed EUR 1.8 mln fine over GDPR breaches

Spain's data protection authority (AEPD) has fined Vodafone Spain (Zegona) a total of EUR 1.8 million for two separate GDPR breaches involving insecure telephone customer-service procedures and a 2023 cyberattack on its Super WiFi platform. According to sources cited by Cinco Dias, the operator has already paid the fines but is appealing both sanctions to the Audiencia Nacional on the grounds that both incidents were caused by third-party suppliers rather than direct company failings.
