On May 1, 2026, NTT DATA achieved active 400 Gbps peering at the Johannesburg Internet Exchange (JINX), a development that indicates a maturation in South Africa's digital infrastructure. Also on May 1, NTT DATA partnered with Climeworks to acquire carbon dioxide removal credits, aiming to cover residual emissions that are difficult to eliminate. This agreement supports the technology services group's goal to achieve net-zero across Scope 1 and 2 emissions in its global data center operations by 2030 and in its global offices by 2035. The partnership, also reported on April 30, represents Climeworks' first portfolio agreement with a major data center firm, providing NTT with a diversified carbon removal portfolio comprising engineered and nature-based projects. This makes NTT DATA the first Japan-based IT services provider to integrate high-quality carbon dioxide removal into its long-term net-zero plans. Previously, on April 30, NTT DATA launched an AI agent designed for managing enterprise infrastructure across multiple vendors and systems. Embedded in its Software Defined Infrastructure (SDI) Services, the agent uses natural language prompts to help enterprises monitor, optimize, and govern their IT environments.
