Leger des Heils is a non-profit organization headquartered in the Netherlands. Founded in 1887, it operates with approximately 3,400 employees. Functioning as the Dutch arm of The Salvation Army, the organization was largely established by Gerrit Govaars, alongside English officers Captain and Mrs Joseph K. Tyler, commencing Army work in the Gerard Doustraat, Amsterdam, on May 8, 1887. The organization spread rapidly throughout Holland and expanded into various Dutch-speaking territories. Operations reached the Dutch East Indies (present-day Indonesia) in 1894, with further advances made in Surinam in 1926 and Curaçao in 1927.
