Detroit Tigers, a privately owned company headquartered in US, was founded in 1882. The company operates as an American professional baseball team based in Detroit, competing in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the American League (AL) Central Division. As one of the AL's eight charter franchises, the club was founded in Detroit as a member of the minor league Western League in 1894 and holds the distinction of being the only Western League team still in its original city. It is also the oldest American League team still playing in their original city under their original name.
